Review of: GFAP, Merck, C9205 by Wolfgang Härtig, University of Leipzig
A powerful immunoreagent for a larger subpopulation of astrocytes is the red fluorescent carbocyanine 3 (Cy3)-conjugate of mouse-anti-GFAP IgG (Sigma; C9205). This immunoreagent allows for the sensitive direct immunolabelling of astroglia in tissues from various mammalian species including autoptic human samples. Its application for the analysis of tissues from mice after experimental stroke is suggested because secondary anti-mouse antibodies – cross-reacting with endogenous mouse IgG – can be circumvented. The usefulness of Cy3-mouse-anti-IgG was exemplified for instance by Härtig et al. 2014 (Neuropathol Appl Neurobiol, Fig. 6).
This antibody is an outstanding immunohistochemical marker
