LDLR, Abcam, 175883

We have received an e-mail from Abcam with the following information regarding anti-LDLR antibody ab175883:

“Recent retests of ab175883 in western blot (WB) on mouse: lung, liver, colon and on human: liver showed negative results (i.e. no band). A band at the correct molecular weight was detected in HepG2 and HeLa cell lines but with high background. Therefore we have concluded that ab175883 is not specific to LDL Receptor and we have now withdrawn it from sale”

I have used this antibody diluted 1:1000 for WB detection of endogenous LDLR in HepG2 cells after stimulation with PCSK9. Although faint bands were observed of expected size, the antibody failed to detect PCSK9 induced reduction of LDLR.
