Reviews are mixed for BDNF, Academia, Academia-0002. Several researchers report strong performance in neuronal applications: clear BDNF detection with low background at 10 ug/ml in cultured hippocampal neurons, vesicular immunostaining of mouse hippocampal neurons, detection of recombinant proBDNF binding to p75NTR-transfected 293 cells, and immunoprecipitation of metabolically labeled endogenous BDNF from primary mouse hippocampal neurons. One reviewer points out that Western blotting at 1:750 gave no bands for 50, 100, or 500 ng BDNF or proBDNF. Another saw no signal on formaldehyde-fixed 14 DIV mouse hippocampal neurons at 10 ug/ml.

Works excellent for detecting BDNF! A clear signal was seen with very little backgrounds
used 10ug/ml on cultured hippocampal neurons.

We tested this antibody for WB diluted 1:750 and observed no bands using 50, 100 and 500 ng of BDNF and proBDNF (cleavage-resistant mutant).

This BDNF antibody works great for immunostaining of hippocampal neurons (mice). Staining appears vesicular.
The BDNF antibody also works for detecting recombinant proBDNF binding to 293 cells transfected with p75NTR.

This BDNF antibody is great for immunoprecipitation of endogenous BDNF secreted from primary mouse hippocampal neurons.
Prior to the IP, BDNF was metabolically labelled.

This antibody was kindly provided by Yves Barde.
We tried on mouse hippocampal neurons 14 DIV fixed with formaldehyde. We didn´t see anything.
Concentration used: 10 ug/ml
