Review of: IL-6, Abcam, ab9324 by pAbmAbs data mining
We generated a top 1000 list of the most studied and most published proteins and analyzed literature validation data for commercially available research antibodies. IL6 encoding interleukin-6 (IL-6) is the 6th most studied gene on the list.
In Herbstein et al., Aging Cell; 23 (2024), the authors investigate the role of intracellular IL-6 in cellular senescence. Abcam ab9324 is tested by WB (1:500) using lysates from rat pituitary tumor cell with IL-6 KO transfected with empty vector, IL-6 or IL-6-KDEL. Data are shown in Figure 4L.
The antibody detects bands in the IL-6 and IL-6-KDEL samples, with little or no corresponding signal in the empty-vector control. The IL-6-KDEL band migrates at a higher apparent MW. GAPDH provides a loading control. These data support specific detection of re-expressed IL-6 by ab9324 in WB. However, the blot is cropped, limiting assessment of additional nonspecific bands, and this panel does not directly assess endogenous IL-6 detection.
We have rated ab9324 based on the available information and according to the pAbmAbs criteria.
