Review of: IL-6, Santa Cruz Biotechnology, sc-1266 by pAbmAbs data mining
We generated a top 1000 list of the most studied and most published proteins and analyzed literature validation data for commercially available research antibodies. IL6 encoding Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is the 6th most studied gene on the list.
In Jankord et al., Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol; 299–R351 (2010), the authors investigate activation of IL-6-positive hypothalamic neurons by stress. Santa Cruz sc-1266 is tested by fluorescence IHC (1:250) in mouse brain sections (WT and IL-6 KO). Validation data are shown in Figure 3.
Neuronal staining is visible in WT tissue and largely absent in KO tissue, supporting specific detection of neuronal IL-6 under the tested conditions. Some punctate background remains, and signal along the ventricular lining is more prominent in KO tissue. Following validation, the authors use sc-1266 to identify IL-6-positive neurons in rat hypothalamus for co-staining to characterize the neurons and assess their activation after stress.
We have rated sc-1266 based on the available information and according to the pAbmAbs criteria.
