Review of: TGF beta 1, Santa Cruz Biotechnology, sc-146 by pAbmAbs data mining
We generated a top 1000 list of the most studied and most published proteins and analyzed literature validation data for commercially available research antibodies. TGFB1 encoding Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 (TGF-beta-1) is the 7th most studied gene on the list.
In Wang et al., Oncology Letters; 13:3239–3246 (2017), the authors investigate the role of TGF-β1 in liver cancer cell growth. Santa Cruz sc-146 is used for WB (1:200) of human HepG2 cell lysates following TGFB1 KD, compared with untreated and non-targeting siRNA controls (60 µg/lane). Data are shown in Figure 1A–B.
The detected band is strongly reduced at 72 and 96 h after siRNA transfection (β-actin loading control). This supports specific detection of TGF-β1 by sc-146 in WB under the tested conditions. However, the blot is cropped and lacks molecular weight markers, limiting assessment of band size and nonspecific bands. This product is discontinued.
We have rated sc-146 based on the available information and according to the pAbmAbs criteria
