Review of: TGF beta 1, Abcam, ab92486 by pAbmAbs data mining
We generated a top 1000 list of the most studied and most published proteins and analyzed literature validation data for commercially available research antibodies. TGFB1 encoding Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 (TGF-beta-1) is the 7th most studied gene on the list.
In Liu et al., Oncology Reports; 42:753–762 (2019), the authors investigate the role of TGF-β1 in gastric cancer cell proliferation. Abcam ab92486 (1:100) is used for WB of mouse MFC cell lysates following TGFB1 KD with three different siRNAs, compared with a non-targeting siRNA control (30 µg/lane). Data are shown in Figure 4A–C.
TGFB1 mRNA KD is confirmed, particularly with siRNA A, but the corresponding WB signal shows only modest reduction at 48 h and little reduction at 72 h (β-actin loading control). These data provide limited support for specific detection of TGF-β1 by ab92486 in WB. The blot is cropped and lacks molecular weight markers, limiting assessment of band size and nonspecific bands. This product is discontinued.
We have rated ab92486 based on the available information and according to the pAbmAbs criteria.
