An useful tool for analyses of oligodendroglia and its metabolism is the immunohistochemical detection of myelin basic protein (MBP) by applying rabbit-anti-MBP (Synaptic Systems, Göttingen; Göttingen 295002). Applying indirect carbocyanine (Cy) 3 immunofluorescence labelling this marker displays in conventionally paraformaldehyde-fixed forebrain tissues of mice a low background staining. After experimentally induced stroke the ischemia-affected regions show strongly enhanced MBP immunosignals (Michalski et al 2018 Front Cell Neurosci, Figs 2-4).

I highly recommend this antibody for IHC.
