  • Searching for a marker detecting a large portion of all neurons, guinea pig-anti-NeuN (neuronal nuclei) from Synaptic Systems (Göttingen, Germany; 266004) can be strongly recommended to visualize the perikarya of nerve cells This antiserum is well applicable investigating paraformaldehyde-fixed brain tissues from various mammalian species, including rodents, sheep and primates. The abilities of this immunoreagent even in paraffin sections from an alpaca’s brain are exemplified by Schöniger et al 2019 (Acta Vet Scand; Fig. 3). Moreover, indirect immunofluorescence labelling of NeuN also visualized neuronal loss after experimental stroke in mice (Härtig et al. 2017, Front Integr Neurosci, Fig. 9).

This antibody is an outstanding immunohistochemical marker

  • We used this antibody for IHC staining of mouse brain.
It works well for both un-perfused (cryosections) and 4% PFA perfused (vibratome sections) tissue.
