By far the best antibody for p75 staining in brain tissue. Never fails and gives great staining of both the cell body and neurites. Tried for both immunofluorescence and DAB reaction. Great labelling of cholinergic projections in DAB.
Made up at 2mg/ml (as per spec sheet) and used at 1:500 for immunofluorescence and 1:1000 for DAB.

We have tested at least eight different commercial antibodies against p75 for the functionality in immunofluorescense in 293 cells transfected with rat p75 cDNA.
The AF1157 from R&D was the only one that worked! It also works on primary mouse hippocampal neurons. However, we have not tested its specificity by comparing p75 knockout cells with wild-type derived cells.
This antibody does not work for Western blotting or for immunoprecipitation. We have tried both with transfected cells and with tissues.

For ICC, we use 2 ug/ml.
