  • This is an good antibody.
We have used it for for detection of LDLR, diluted 1:500 (Western Blot) and re-used several times.

  • This antibody also works nicely for fluorescent immunostaining of mice adrenal gland tissue (paraffin). Working dilution 1:100.

  • This antibody works great for Western blotting (diluted 1:2000) for detection of both murine and human LDLR.

  • This is an exceptional good antibody!
We have used it for detection of LDLR in mouse liver after iv administration of PCSK9. The antibody detects a single band of expected size (100 kDa). The identity of the band is confirmed by a clear PCSK9 induced down regulation of protein level, as several groups have published it (see Western blot above).
50 µg protein (membrane preparation) was loaded, and the antibody was diluted 1:2000 in 5% milk in TBS-T. We re-use the antibody several times (10+) and store it on ice in the cold room.

  • I used this antibody (1:100) for immunostaining of endogenous LDLR. A strong signal was detected in HepG2 cells, however a similar staining was seen in HepG2 cells with overexpression of PCSK9, a protein that induces degradation of lipoprotein receptors including LDLR.

  • This antibody does not work for IP of endogenous LDL receptor from HEK293 cells.

We did IPs from metabolically labelled cells (S35)and saw a lot of unspecific bands. The antibody even pulled down the related receptor SorLA.

  • I did not used this antibody, but I’d like to spread the word, because science never has too much money to spend. Especially when you can buy ABs much cheaper.
So, this antibody is also available at:
    Novus: NB110-57162
    Genetex: GTX61553
Origene: TA300856 (you get the free sample of positive control with this one!)
It is exactly the same antibody, just look at the pictures and specs. What’s different? Price! Abcam: 410 euro, Novus: 379 euro.
One more thing: I have no connections with Novus, Origene, Abcam or any other company. I use antibodies daily, so I know a things or two.

  • This LDL receptor antibody works nicely for Western blotting.

We used mouse liver homogenates as samples. The LDL receptor antibody detected a band of the expected size. However two unspecific bands of low molecular weight were also observed.

  • We have used this excellent antibody for immunostaining (1:100) of HepG2 cells, and for WB (1:3000) detection of hLDLR (HepG2) and mLDLR (liver homogenates). For WB we reuse the antibody several times.
